Symbols in Georgian Heraldic and medallion art

Author(s): Nathia Ugrelidze

The art which Lamara Quelidze created is quite unique but the Georgian art fraternity is till date quite unfamiliar with it. Any artist while creating medallions enacts the role of a psychologist because each feature of the medallion has to be able to narrate to the audience a story - and along with it reveal the state of mind of the artist who created it. This is one of a kind of an experiment and these medallions express a range of emotions with symbols, quite effectively. To be able to express accurately, all of the above, colors have been used quite effectively, and is obvious in the sample shown above. I have tried to explain these symbols’ with their specific aesthetic phenomenon.
