On cultural and educational activity of Barbare Kipiani in early 1910-ies

The article deals with the cultural and educational activity of known Georgian scholar and public figure, Dr. Barbare Kipiani (1879-1965) in early 1910-ies in Belgium. In particular, on the data of material of the State Historical Archive of the Georgian National Archive it is shown her part in establishment of the Georgian Department of the Brussels International Museum (1913). In accordance with her program this Department would play a significant part in popularization of Georgia and Georgian culture abroad.

1. Historische Hintergründe des georgischen Nationalismus Da die eigentliche Formation der modernen georgischen Nation im 19. Jahrhundert begann, werde ich mit der Analyse des Nationalismus ab dieser Epoche beginnen. Für die Analyse der ersten georgischen National-bewegung bietet sich das von dem tschechischen Historiker Miroslav Hroch (1971) entworfene Modell über die Entwicklung des Nationalismus bei “kleinen” Völkern an. Demzufolge interessieren sich Gelehrte und Adlige in der so genannten „kulturellen Erweckungsphase” (A) für ihre eigene Sprache, Geschichte und kulturelle Tradition.
